The bath is one of those bathroom fixtures that requires regular cleaning. As long as you do it properly, you can enjoy its immaculate cleanliness and neat appearance for years. In this guide, we discuss cleaning sanitary ware made from acrylic. Read on!

Do acrylic baths get dirty easily?

Acrylic bath is easy to keep clean, but like any sanitary ware in the home, it does require some care. Generally, acrylic is less prone to limescale and rust build-up than ceramic or cast iron. However, depending on the quality of the material used, some models may scratch and dull more easily, which can make it harder to keep them pristine in the long run.

How often should you clean an acrylic bath?

The frequency of cleaning an acrylic bath depends primarily on how often you use it and how many household members bathe in it. In general, it’s recommended to give the acrylic bath a quick clean after each use to avoid the build-up of dirt, residues and stains, and to carry out a deep clean at least once a month.

Are there special cleaners for acrylic baths?

One of the most important aspects of correctly cleaning acrylic sanitary ware is using products designed specifically for this purpose. There are plenty of specialist bathroom cleaners on the market that are safe for the bath’s surface and effectively remove grime and streaks.

These products most often come as cream cleaners or sprays and are extremely easy to use. Simply cover the bath surface with the product, wait 10–20 minutes, and remove the dirt with a sponge or cloth.

Acrylic-safe cleaners contain ingredients that help remove limescale deposits, rust stains, grease and other soils that can settle on the bath’s surface. Some products are also enriched with special protective agents that prevent build-up and keep it cleaner for longer.

Can you use ordinary household cleaners on acrylic?

It’s not recommended to use cleaning agents that aren’t dedicated to this type of surface for washing an acrylic bath. Strong bathroom cleaners usually contain bleaching agents, hydrochloric acid, alkalis and other substances that can cause dulling, loss of shine or damage to the acrylic surface. They can permanently damage the surface coating of the bath.

How do you avoid streaks and water marks on an acrylic bath?

Firstly, rinse the bath with water after every use—the thorough rinsing of soap and shampoo residues reduces the risk of unsightly streaks. After rinsing, it’s worth wiping the acrylic surface with a dry cloth. Moreover, if you have hard water, invest in filtration systems to reduce limescale build-up.

How can you clean an acrylic bath using home remedies?

You can use a few home tricks to clean an acrylic bath. Lemon juice with bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide are natural cleaning agents used by our mothers and grandmothers which, thanks to their effectiveness, have never lost popularity. Remember, however, that acrylic is sensitive to scratching, so avoid using abrasive sponges.

What tools are best for cleaning an acrylic bath?

So, what should you use to clean an acrylic bath without damaging it? Here are a few tried-and-tested tools:

  • Sponges: it’s best to choose the softest sponges, which won’t scratch the bath’s surface. You can also opt for cleaning accessories designed specifically for acrylic.
  • Soft cloths: microfibre or cotton cloths are ideal for cleaning an acrylic bath. They’re gentle to the touch and spread cleaning agents evenly.
  • Soft‑bristled brushes: you can also use brushes that remove dried-on dirt very well and come with a comfortable handle.

Can cleaning an acrylic bath be harmful to your health?

Not everyone realises this, but combining certain cleaning agents can be dangerous to your health, especially if the bathroom has poor ventilation.

How do you clean an acrylic bath without compromising your health? Firstly, don’t mix products with ingredients unknown to you, and never mix bleach-based products with those based on ammonia, alcohol or vinegar. Secondly, carry out any deep cleaning wearing protective gloves and, ideally, a face mask as well.

We hope you now know what to use to clean an acrylic bath to keep it immaculately clean and durable for years. Remember, the right tools and specialist cleaners are key to keeping your sanitary ware in perfect condition. Safe, regular cleaning guarantees the hygiene and aesthetics of your bathroom!
