What are bathroom washbasins recessed into the countertop?

Recessed washbasins are a good alternative to above-counter basins. Like an above-counter basin, a recessed basin is designed to be installed together with a countertop or bathroom cabinet. It differs in that a hole in the countertop is required into which the basin is recessed.
