Not sure how to descale a tap on the inside? Need to clean the outside of a shower hose? Or maybe you need tips on what to use to clean bathroom taps? In this article, we take a broader look at the topic and advise what to do to bring your bathroom taps back to their former shine and full functionality. See how to do it with minimal effort – here are five effective tips to help you remove limescale from bathroom taps.
Descaling the internal components of a bathroom tap can be a challenge. Limescale that has built up over the years causes a drop in water pressure and other problems with the tap’s operation. It’s therefore worth descaling bathroom taps regularly. Ready-made products are the most commonly chosen solutions, but there are also household methods of dealing with this problem.
The most popular method is to use vinegar. Simply pour it into the inside of the tap (directly or using a small bag hung on the tap) and leave it for a few hours. After that time, rinse the tap with warm water – the limescale should be removed.
Another option is to use bicarbonate of soda together with vinegar. This mixture can be more effective than using a single ingredient, so it’s ideal for heavily scaled taps. The procedure is the same as with vinegar alone.
A shower hose is exposed to various types of dirt, including limescale deposits. Over time, they make it harder for water to flow, which negatively affects showering comfort.
To clean the hose on the outside, use a 1:1 mix of water and vinegar. Wipe the hose with the prepared solution using a soft cloth or sponge. Leave it for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
Another method is to use lemon juice. It has limescale-dissolving properties (mineral deposits) and deals very well with stains. After such a treatment, the shower hose will be refreshed and regain its shine and functionality.
Bathroom taps, especially chrome ones, lose their shine because mineral deposits quickly build up on their surface. Fortunately, there are many home remedies to restore them to their former glory.
Cleaning taps with a vinegar solution is a tried-and-tested way to remove limescale. Simply place a vinegar-soaked paper towel (or cloth) on the tap for a few hours, then wipe the tap with warm water.
Another effective method is a paste made from bicarbonate of soda and water (3 parts soda to 1 part water). Apply the paste to the tap, leave it for 15 minutes, then wipe and rinse. This will restore the tap’s original shine.
For more stubborn stains, use a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water. Apply it to the soiled areas, gently rub it in, and after around 15 minutes rinse thoroughly. This natural solution removes limescale effectively and is gentle on the tap’s surface. If the limescale is particularly persistent, ready-made products available in shops will also work. Remember to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and protect your hands – wear rubber gloves.
The shower head is often where the most mineral deposits accumulate. This blocks the small openings, so the water flows unevenly and at reduced pressure.
As with other bathroom elements, start cleaning the shower head by washing it with a vinegar solution. Depending on the degree of limescale, submerge the head in a bowl of vinegar for a few hours, then rinse thoroughly.
Another method is a mix of lemon juice and salt. Combine the ingredients in equal parts, apply to the shower head and leave for a few hours. After that, rinse the shower head thoroughly. This home method not only effectively removes limescale but also disinfects the shower head.
Here are a few tips that will certainly come in handy when cleaning any component of your bathroom taps.
