How to glue a tile into a linear drain – a guide!

A shower enclosure without a tray—a walk-in with a linear drain? This type of drain is being chosen more and more often for bathrooms with such shower enclosures, especially in Scandinavian, minimalist interiors. However, using a linear drain calls for skilled tiling to achieve the correct fall. This ensures optimal runoff of excess water. How do you set a tile into a linear drain so that it does its job without any trouble?

A shower enclosure without a tray and a walk-in with a linear drain? That’s an increasingly popular type of drain in bathrooms with this kind of shower. Especially in bathrooms kept in a Scandinavian, minimalist style. Using a linear drain does, however, require skilful tile work to lay them at the correct angle. This will ensure optimal run‑off of excess water. How do you set a tile into a linear drain so it does its job without any hassle?

Linear drains in walk-in showers – characteristics

Why have walk-ins become so popular? For a host of reasons that come together into a very well-functioning whole. Firstly: they suit small bathrooms because they take up less space than standard shower enclosures. Secondly: they’re exceptionally beautiful in their simplicity. Thirdly: they’re convenient and easy to step into in the morning for a quick, refreshing shower.

Linear drains in this type of shower are really an extension of all the above. A linear drain works well in small bathrooms, looks exceptionally neat, is fully functional and safe. A fall of just a few percent relative to the rest of the floor is enough for water to drain away as quickly as it appears.

So where’s the difficulty? In doing it properly. Odpływ liniowy with a tile-in cover calls for precision and experience to function correctly. How should you lay the tiles around a linear drain, and what should it be like under the shower? More on that below.

Installing a linear drain

Many people wonder how to set a tile into a linear drain so the whole assembly is functional rather than a source of shower woes. A tile-in linear drain requires the tiles to be pitched towards the drain so that water doesn’t collect.

These days there are more and more ways to make installing a solution that used to cause plenty of difficulties much simpler. It’s still worth asking what fall to a linear drain will be appropriate in a given spot.

The tiles at a linear drain should be inclined towards the channel by at least 2.5%, i.e. 2.5 cm per metre of surface. This is the optimal threshold, ensuring very good water removal. It prevents pooling and helps keep the shower enclosure clean, so it also matters for hygiene. It also makes it easier to clean the bathroom floor within the shower area.

How do you lay tiles at a linear drain? You can set them using silicone or a dedicated ceramic tile adhesive. The first option isn’t optimal, so it’s better to use adhesive, which offers better performance and durability. You should also buy a linear drain with a tile‑in cover strip designed for tiles, without grates or similar elements. They’re completely unnecessary in this case.

Linear drain – lay the tiles yourself or hire a pro?

The tiles around a linear drain should be laid by someone who knows their trade. Do you have that kind of experience? Do you know how to level tiles, set the correct fall, and bond them properly? You’ll handle the task with ease! No experience or know‑how? Better leave it to a specialist who’ll do everything so the household is happy and the shower (and its linear drain) works flawlessly.

There’s no denying that walk-in showers are among the most elegant on the market. They’re simple and functional, exceptionally aesthetic, and they don’t take up much space, positively influencing the look of the entire bathroom. Properly installed linear drains will ensure that using this type of shower is not only pleasant but also safe.

The finish around the drain is important to avoid situations where water pools somewhere in the shower instead of draining away. When everything is carried out and done by the book, the walk-in shower in your bathroom will become a place for hygiene and relaxation.
