Plan the installation of a shower with a rain shower head

Installing a shower with a rain shower head won’t be possible unless you first get the right kit. There are various types of rain shower heads available on the market, so how do you choose the best? When choosing, pay attention to a few criteria.

Size will be important, among other things. Rain shower head should be matched to the size and shape of your shower enclosure. Larger models are ideal for spacious bathrooms, while in smaller spaces compact variants work better. Also take the material into account. Stainless steel and chrome models offer long-lasting durability and are easy to clean. Pay attention as well to the features offered by a given model. Modern rain shower heads can provide a variety of water flow settings, from a gentle mist to an intense, massaging stream.

The next step is to gather all the tools you’ll need for the installation. Various spanners and screwdrivers may come in handy, as well as a drill with a set of bits, a spirit level and sanitary silicone. Make sure, too, that the rain shower head you’ve chosen is compatible with your plumbing.

All set? Decide exactly where you’ll install the rain shower head and move on to the next stage of the work.

Installing a shower with a rain shower head step by step

Installing a shower with a rain shower head is fairly straightforward. Just follow these steps:

  1. Start by installing the shower mixer. The shower mixer is usually wall-mounted. Check what mounting height will be appropriate, taking into account the height of everyone in the household. Use a spirit level to make sure the mixer is mounted straight. Fix the mixer to the wall using a drill and the appropriate wall plugs.

  2. Connect the water and waste connections. Connect the new shower mixer to the existing water pipes. Make sure all connections are watertight, using appropriate sealants — this will minimise the risk of leaks.

  3. Install the rain shower head.

    1. Proper placement of the rain shower head: The ideal spot is the centre of the shower enclosure. This will allow you to use the shower freely and ensure even water distribution while you shower.

How high should the rain shower head be?

Rain shower head: how far above your head? The most practical solution is to mount it about 20–25 cm above the head of the tallest member of the household. This way they won’t bump into it, and at the same time the height will be just as functional for everyone else.

    2. Move on to installation. First, mount the shower arm to the wall. Using a drill, make holes for the wall plugs. Insert the screws to secure the arm. Wrap the pipe threads with PTFE tape so leaks don’t occur in use. Then screw the rain shower head onto the arm. And you’re done!

Check for leaks and clean the shower

After installing the shower with a rain shower head, it’s extremely important to thoroughly check the entire system for leaks. Only then will you be sure there are none. Turn on the water and carefully inspect all connections and hoses, paying particular attention to places where water droplets may appear.

If you notice a leak, tighten the connections or reapply sealant. Next, carry out a general clean-up of the installation area. Remove any leftovers from the installation: the rain shower packaging, drilling dust or silicone marks where they shouldn’t be. Clean the rain shower head and other shower elements using mild cleaners.

All done? Then it’s time for the first shower! Enjoy!
