Coloured countertop basins have been a true hit of recent seasons and interior design trends. The right shade and shape guarantee a bathroom that’s not only striking but practical as well. So how do you choose a coloured bathroom basin to create a space that’s both functional and original?

Coloured countertop basins have been a real hit in recent seasons and interior design trends. The right shade and shape guarantee not only a striking bathroom, but also a practical one. So how do you choose a coloured bathroom basin to create a functional yet original space?

Coloured countertop basin — what makes it so appealing?

Coloured basins are most popular in modern, unconventional, and glamour-style interiors. What do they owe their popularity to? Besides the fact that countertop models are practical and a distinctive addition in their own right, a coloured variant further boosts their appeal.

Coloured countertop basin comes in various shapes: from oval through rectangular and round to fanciful designs — resembling colourful glass bowls, shells or flowers. What’s more, this type of basin can mimic virtually any material: marble, wood or stone.

It’s precisely this wide choice of patterns, colours, sizes and shapes that makes coloured bathroom basins increasingly popular.

The trend for coloured basins — how to style a bathroom with them?

To fully showcase the decorative aspect of coloured basins, it’s worth opting for models that contrast with the countertop. Choose a model that clearly stands out from the vanity unit on which you place the basin, while also contrasting with the tiles.

If the walls are light, feel free to go for a basin in dark tones, mimicking, for example, stone. On a wooden countertop, a marble-effect model will stand out. Ceramic basins in bold colours — green, red, yellow, turquoise or purple — are also very popular. With such a combination, add accessories in a similar shade, e.g. a soap dish or a toothbrush tumbler.

You can also match the basin’s colour or pattern to the texture and shade of the decorative tiles in the bathroom, or to other small ornamental elements, such as mirror detailing, its frame, or the shape of the wall lights above the mirror.

Basin shape

The shape of the basin also matters in interior design. A good guide here is the mirror — if it’s rectangular, choose a rectangular basin too. Proceed analogously with every other form: round mirror — round basin, etc. This way you’ll introduce harmony into the space.

Basin size

The size of the basin affects not only its functionality. It also determines whether it fits in with the aesthetic of the entire room. In spacious bathrooms, you can confidently choose large basins — models even up to 120 cm long will work well here!

In small spaces, it’s best to opt for small basins that won’t overwhelm the bathroom. Models between 40 cm and 70 cm in length will be a good solution.

Tap colour

The tap colour also matters. Yellow and rose gold finishes are best suited to glamour interiors. Chrome and silver finishes are a good choice for modern spaces, while black or white will work both in modern interiors and in classic or Scandinavian ones.

Ceramics still the most popular!

Ceramic bathroom basins remain popular. Firstly, ceramics can take on almost any, even the most fanciful shape, colour or pattern. Secondly, it’s a material with high resistance to mechanical damage such as scratches or chips. Ceramic basins are therefore particularly suitable where there are small children, who will undoubtedly drop something heavier into the basin more than once. Sudden changes in water temperature are no problem, and such basins are easy to keep clean — they don’t require special care.

A coloured ceramic basin is an excellent choice if you’re looking for an original form and a practical bathroom basin at the same time. This way you’ll gain not only an eye-catching interior feature, but above all a functional fixture that will serve you reliably for many years to come.
