A soak in a bath full of bubbles is usually associated with relaxation, unwinding and at‑home spa rituals. It helps you gather your thoughts and switch off. It also offers a kind of escape from everyday problems. To get the most benefit from it and enjoy every moment, it’s worth choosing the right sanitary fittings and installing them at the proper height.
When opting for an alternative to a shower, every single detail matters. One of them is the bath tap. Depending on how it’s fixed, there are two basic placement options. The first—chosen fairly rarely—is mounting the bath tap on the bath itself. The second—much more common—involves installing it about 10-18 cm above the rim of the bath and at least 60 cm from the floor. Laid out like this, it ensures maximum comfort and ease of use.
Contrary to appearances, fixing a bath tap isn’t overly complicated, but it does require some precision and manual skill. To start, screw the special eccentric connectors to the water supply stubs at the same height and at a right angle. Then seal the threaded joints with PTFE tape or hemp fibre, and fit the escutcheons onto the eccentric connectors. The final step is to place gaskets with filters inside the nuts used to attach your chosen fitting. The actual installation consists of tightening the tap with a spanner and protecting the aforementioned nuts with a piece of cloth or with dedicated plastic protective caps.
As with the previous case, the height of a concealed shower tap plays a key role in everyday comfort. It’s especially important to match the sanitary fittings to the specific user—a child, an adult or a person with a disability. To make showering as comfortable as possible, the height of the shower tap should be chosen individually.
Taking all criteria into account, pay attention to the correct method for installing the concealed element. Given the varying heights of all shower users, a good rule of thumb is to position the centre of the mixer about 110-120 cm from the floor. Before that, you need to run the hot and cold water pipes to the mixer. To install a concealed shower tap, you must make an opening in the wall to recess part of the fitting and to provide access to the supply pipes.
Fitting a concealed basin tap is the simplest in terms of adjusting all parameters to a particular user. According to experts on many specialist portals, there is a universal height for positioning this type of fitting. With comfort and ergonomics in mind, it’s accepted that the basin tap should be mounted about 25-35 cm above the top edge of the basin and at the same time 100-120 cm above the floor. Based on these figures, the optimal height for the basin itself is 80 cm.
As you’ve probably noticed, choosing the right height for each bathroom tap—bath, shower and basin—has huge aesthetic and functional significance. Properly installed sanitary fittings let you enjoy comfort and convenience for many years.
