How should I do up the bathroom?

Interior design trends have shifted over the centuries. Once our kitchens were large and our bathrooms small—today, spacious bathing areas are in vogue and kitchens are getting smaller. It’s increasingly common for a bathroom to feature not only a bathtub but also a shower enclosure. Therefore, right after purchasing an apartment or house, attention should be paid to a proper, well-thought-out arrangement of the bathroom interior.

Interior design trends change over time. Once our kitchens were large and our bathrooms small – today, spacious bathing areas are in vogue and kitchens are getting smaller. It’s increasingly common for a bathroom to contain not only a bath but also a shower enclosure. That’s why, right after buying an apartment or a house, you should pay attention to a proper, well-thought-out arrangement of the bathroom interior.

Where to start?

A bathroom should be comfortable, functional and safe. These three factors are influenced by the placement of the individual pieces of bathroom furniture, as well as the choice of suitable finishing materials. It is recommended, for example, that the shower enclosure or bath have free space around them of at least one metre. At the same time, key bathroom fixtures should be located close to the soil stack. In a bathroom with a window, you shouldn’t place the washbasin or the bath beneath it, as this makes it difficult to open the window freely.

Much depends on the floor area

Small bathrooms can be just as functional as larger ones. The key is a thoughtful, inventive layout and interesting bathroom accessories. In a compact bathroom, an 80×80 shower enclosure, or even a slightly larger one, will certainly work well. It’s a good idea to install pivoting doors, with a recess or cupboards behind them where you can hide cleaning products or household appliances. Light colours should dominate in small interiors; installing mirrors is also recommended, as such solutions visually increase the sense of space in the room. Conversely, in large bathrooms we can allow ourselves more extravagant solutions, such as placing the bath in the middle of the room.

What about the washing machine?

We usually place the washing machine in the bathroom. But where is the best place to put it? For greater convenience, you can put it next to the washbasin. You can also hide the washing machine behind a set of sliding doors. There needs to be some free space in front of the machine. If the room is particularly small, a top-loading washing machine will be an ideal solution.

Or maybe a shower is best?

A shower enclosure not only saves space, but also reduces water use. Even an 80×80 shower enclosure can provide comfort. There are currently a range of options on the market from different manufacturers, offering interesting features. Those who love to relax will surely appreciate the option of installing jets that rinse the body at different heights. You can even install an MP3 system in the shower enclosure.
