These days, more and more people are opting for homemade cleaning products. You can make your own washing powder, washing-up liquid, and even pastes and mixtures that will help you keep your sanitary ware spotlessly clean while ensuring proper hygiene. We suggest how to remove limescale from the toilet or what to use to clean the shower enclosure using homemade products!

Benefits of homemade cleaning methods

Homemade cleaning products have many advantages. Generally, making them is much cheaper than popular chemical products. We usually have practically all the necessary ingredients at home to make the chosen mixture.

Additionally, such blends don’t put the household’s health at risk, as they’re most often prepared from food-grade products. This way, you’re not inhaling toxic fumes and you’re not exposing your skin to irritation.

There’s more! The homemade cleaning products you prepare are also safe for the environment. This way, you’ll be doing your bit for the planet.

How to remove limescale from the toilet without using chemicals?

There are several methods to tackle stubborn limescale or deposits in the toilet, bath or washbasin and in bathroom taps. Today we’re sharing ideas for tried-and-tested, highly effective solutions that take just a few minutes to prepare.

Bicarbonate of soda and citric acid paste

To make it, you’ll need bicarbonate of soda, citric acid and water. Combine the ingredients in a 3:2:1 ratio. Apply the mixture to the soiled area and leave it for at least half an hour. After that, clean the toilet as usual and rinse the bowl with water.

Remember: the thicker the paste, the better it will cling to the slippery surface of the bowl. You can adjust the proportions to suit your needs. The more water, the runnier the mixture. Less liquid means you’ll get a firmer consistency.

How do you remove limescale from the WC below the water line? Simple! Put the mixture into the toilet and stir until it foams. Again, wait at least half an hour. Then clean the toilet with a toilet brush and flush.

White vinegar and bicarbonate of soda

Bicarbonate of soda combined with white vinegar is not only an effective remedy for limescale and streaks, but also a mixture that deals with bacteria and microbes. Even heavy scale in the toilet bowl won’t stand a chance against this mix.

To make it, you’ll need 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar. Mix the ingredients and, using a sponge or a toothbrush, apply to the stains. Leave the mixture there for at least 15 minutes. After that, rinse it off with warm water.

Coca-Cola for toilet limescale?

Yes! Although it may surprise you, this popular fizzy drink also works for removing limescale from the WC. Just pour at least a litre of the drink into the toilet and leave it there for an hour. After that, clean the inside of the toilet with a toilet brush and flush.

Other ways to tackle limescale in the bathroom

Wondering how to remove limescale from a bathroom tap? How to descale a shower head, or how to remove limescale from a washbasin? In all these cases, homemade methods will work too!

You can get rid of limescale or deposits from taps, the washbasin or the shower tray and the shower head with the help of white vinegar. Soak some cotton wool or a cloth in vinegar and wrap it around the soiled area. Wait at least an hour, then rinse the area with warm water.

Is residue on the shower enclosure keeping you up at night? In that case, squeeze some lemon juice and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the dirty surface 2–3 times at a few-minute interval, then rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly. Instead of lemon juice, you can put white vinegar in the bottle.

So you can see for yourself that keeping the bathroom clean with homemade cleaning products is remarkably simple!
