How do you adjust the doors in a shower enclosure, and when is it absolutely necessary to do so? It’s a task that undoubtedly calls for precision. In this article, you’ll learn how to carry it out so that the shower enclosure doors work flawlessly. And the reasons why? There are plenty. You’ll read about them in this article!

Adjusting shower enclosure doors – indications

The first adjustment of the shower enclosure doors happens already at the installation stage of the entire enclosure. The shower must be levelled very precisely. Otherwise, it won’t sit in the correct position, so the enclosure and its doors will, inevitably, operate improperly and require constant adjustment. If that’s the case, the shower itself needs adjusting, not just the doors.

If all parts of the enclosure are perfectly level, the following situations indicate that the doors need adjustment:

  • difficulty opening/closing the doors;

  • increased door resistance;

  • the doors catching on the surface of the shower tray;

  • rollers that come out of the track;

  • a gap between the closed doors of the enclosure;

  • the doors not closing fully at the top or bottom of the enclosure.

Each of the above is a reason to readjust the shower enclosure doors. Doors that work properly shouldn’t jump out of the tracks, fail to shut, or cause problems in everyday use.

How to adjust shower enclosure doors?

Installing a shower enclosure, properly levelling all the components and harmonising them with the doors calls for skill, experience and precision. Sometimes it’s worth getting a professional in, but anyone who wants to adjust the shower enclosure doors themselves should carry out each step carefully and slowly.

Most irregularities are down to the rollers, which let the doors slide smoothly along the track. If their condition leaves a lot to be desired, they will need replacing. In that case, go to the shop and buy the correct model of rollers, then fit them according to the instructions. Otherwise, the rollers will jump out of the track, which can end up damaging the entire door panel.

However, if they’re simply tightened too much or too little, adjust them with a screwdriver and the appropriate Allen key (hex key). It’s not too difficult, but you’ll need to repeat the adjustment a few times, without rushing, to achieve the desired result.

Doors not closing properly – what to do?

Doors that don’t close fully, whether at the sides, the top or the bottom, are often the reason for a splashed bathroom floor. Leaks arise for various reasons, but three stand out:

  • a track for the door rollers that hasn’t been cleaned;

  • limescale build-up reducing smooth movement;

  • worn or faulty seals.

Doors that become leaky at the bottom or the top often look that way because the door profiles are uneven. It’s not the only possible cause, but it’s a very common one. Each of the issues mentioned above should be fixed as soon as it’s detected. Otherwise, water will get out of the enclosure, which has unpleasant consequences.

Water left on the bathroom floor is often the cause of accidents in the home. Someone stepping out of the shower tray after finishing their shower can slip in a very unfortunate way, even if there’s a towel or mat on the floor. It doesn’t look great either, and any water on the floor will have to be cleaned up. Wasting time, money, patience and peace of mind isn’t worth doing nothing about it, and it won’t get any better on its own!

It’s worth adjusting the doors on an ongoing basis and eliminating faults that lead to incorrect operation or alignment. Checking the rollers and tracks, levelling, assessing the quality of the profiles and the extent of limescale on various door components are absolute basics. It’s worth doing this regularly, every few months, or even once a month. Then both the shower enclosure, its doors, and the whole bathroom will operate more smoothly.
